My name is Matthew, I’m an illustrator based in the UK. I use traditional drawing techniques mixed with digital to make images for a range of editorial and publishing clients. I also do live event drawing and storyboarding. I have an identical twin and I’m a bit of a geek.

The cover drawing for issue #17 is inspired by mountain running trails and I tried to convey a sense of freedom of running in the open air.

I also like to make work and prints for exhibitions, I’ve had work exhibited in London, New York and Los Angeles for various gallery shows and I have a few more lined up for the rest of the year. One of my favourite things about my job is when someone likes something I’ve made enough to hang in their house.

My favourite running moment was when I was visiting The Orbit at Stratford, London, one evening and the viewpoint at the top looked out over the Olympic Stadium just as a relay race began. It was amazing to see and hear the reaction of the crowd from above, and to see a race from an unusual angle.

My ultimate adventure would be trekking through the jungle and finding some sort of temple ruin, Indiana Jones style.

Matthew’s favourite quote: “Do or do not, there is no try.”

Matthew’s cover art will be available as a 30x40cm giclée art print in our shop soon – keep your eyes on our social channels.
