After the disruption wreaked on races by Covid-19, this year many of the events that were cancelled in 2020 are back, at least in some form. This weekend sees the return of the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, a race that has played a huge part in the life of LtW since the very start. Whilst the continued presence of Covid-19 means that everything is not ‘back to normal’ there are a few events taking place around the race that might be worth checking out if you are in Chamonix this weekend;

Thursday 26 August –

Swiss running brand On will be hosting a party at it’s base in the town – la Folie Douce hotel – with music by Klement Bonelli and Doytcheva. It kicks off at 6pm CET.

Saturday 28 August –

Éditions Mons is teaming up with L’Équipe, Strava and LtW for the premiere of Les Finisseurs, a 48-minute documentary directed by Aurélien Delfosse and Alexis Berg about the handful of athletes who have finished the Barkleys Marathons. The film is based on a book of the same name.

There are two events you can attend – tickets for the 6pm screening are available here and tickets for the 8:30pm screening are here. Numbers are extremely limited so don’t delay if you want to come along.

Program:
– Screening of the film La Barkley Sans Pitié (20 minutes). English with French subtitles.
– Screening of the film Les Finisseurs (48 minutes). English with French subtitles.
– LtW editor Simon Freeman interviewing film makers Aurélien Delfosse and Alexis Berg (+ special guest TBC) on stage.

Copies of Les Finisseurs book and Like the Wind will be available to buy on the night

Sunday 29 August –

The only place to be on Sunday night is the Bighorn Bistro in Chamonix Sud. The bar will be open serving beers, cocktails and shots plus the kitchen will be cooking up a storm. There is no better way to celebrate the UTMB weekend in the company of your fellow runners. Open all day, the party will kick off after the UTMB awards ceremony has taken place.
