There is a well-used African proverb that says: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” It will come as no surprise to members of the Like the Wind family that we value longevity, quality and community over speed. The magazine does not report on news or the “latest thing” in running. In fact, we focus on probably the element of running that has perhaps most stood the test of time – the “why”.
So we always want to “go together”. That means the subscribers and readers – who ensure creating each edition of the magazine has a purpose. It means the contributors – writers, photographers and illustrators – who fill the pages with such wonder. It means the small team who work so hard to bring the magazine to life. And – importantly – it means the brands that support us.
As with most aspects of publishing a running magazine, when it comes to working with brands, we take a unique approach. We don’t sell adverts; instead, we have year-long partners. We create brand features for those partners, instead of printing adverts. And we put a strict limit on the number of brands we work with (six this year).
